From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, the friends of Ranea Pontius are holding a fundraiser to help the young, single mother of two who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Just over a month ago, Pontius, 24, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s, which is a cancer of lymph tissue found in the lymph nodes, spleen, liver, bone marrow and other sites. Making her journey even more difficult is that Pontius is a single mother to a 4 month old and a 2 year old. She also had to recently quit her job because of the cancer treatments she is now going through and will continue to endure for the next eight months.

Having lived in North Webster for about the last five years, Pontius recently had to move back in with her parents in Akron as she battles her disease. She is undergoing chemo treatments every other week and will continue them until June 2013.

On Saturday, the Center Lake Pavilion will be the location for the fundraiser. All  proceeds earned that day will go to Pontius.

The event, being called Family Fall Festival, includes a large bake sale, a cake walk and several game stations especially geared for children ages 10 and under.
Each game will require one ticket and tickets will be sold in a quantity of 7 for $5. Attendees can also enjoy fresh kettle corn and hot chocolate during the event.

The bake sale will consist of all kinds of fresh baked goods including pies, brownies, gooey caramel bars, peanut butter balls, cookies and more. Come ready to take home some treats and help the cause.

Those who want to support the effort to help Ranea Pontius can also contribute without attending the event. For more information, contact Amelia Allen at amelia.fay@hotmail.com.
