Final plans are complete for the annual Magical Derby, a benefit for the Magical Meadows, the local therapeutic horseback riding center for adults and children with special needs. It will take place Saturday, May 2, at Toyota of Warsaw.
Star Entertainment from Cleveland, Ohio, will bring their show, “A Night At The Races,” complete with video taped horse racing, to the showroom of the Toyota store. “Being this is the same night as the Kentucky Derby, we will have our very own version right right in Warsaw,” says Tina Rice, event chair for The Magical Derby.
Each race has a corporate sponsor and race winners will be given a chance to win donated prizes for the payouts. Even losers of races get a chance to win prizes through the use of a Loser’s Bucket. Horses of each race can be “purchased” prior to the race and the “owners” of the winning horse will receive a derby trophy and prize package.
Along with the horse racing, a derby hat contest will take place with the awards presented for best decorated hat. “The hat contest shows how creative our derby divas can be,” Rice says. “We see hats made from lamp shades to used horse shoes, so we can’t wait to see what they come up with this year.”
A derby inspired buffet dinner, cash bar and complimentary taste of a Mint Julep, provided by The Sleepy Owl Supper Club, awaits those who will participate in the most unique, interactive ‘fun’draiser. “This night is all about being able to experience the feel of the derby while at the same time supporting the mission of The Magical Meadows and our special needs community,” concluded Rice.
Post time for the derby is 6:30 p.m. for registration. Tickets can be purchased for $35 each. Call The Magical Meadows at (574) 265-3085 for tickets or more information, or visit www.themagicalmeadows.org.
